Women’s Book Discussion Group
The October book selection is The Beekeeper of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri. Our next meeting is Wednesday, October 9, 1:00 to 3:00 PM, at the home of Steffi Prather.
Alastair Mabbott of The Scotland Herald writes,
Drawing on her experience in the field, Lefteri writes vividly and convincingly about the trials endured by refugees ... The Beekeeper of Aleppo is a relevant, timely book, but impresses most as a compassionate and truthful character study. It’s a remarkable account of the dislocation endured by displaced persons across the world, an important and necessary novel that humanizes the dispossessed who are all too often demonized.
Join our lively group for an in-depth discussion of this important book and enjoy the camaraderie and insights of the members. During our meeting, we’ll also discuss ways—either financial or action-oriented—to support groups that are giving aid to refugees and book suggestions for upcoming meetings.
