owl-logoWhy in the world would a church offer Sex Ed classes???

At UUCSC we teach comprehensive sexuality education because it is an important ministry.

Our Whole Lives Sexuality Education is about much more than just anatomy and health. It’s about values, respect, emotions and justice too.

It’s about the profoundly human aspects of sexuality. It is part of the tapestry of life itself. This is why we teach Our Whole Lives in church—because sexuality is an inextricable and essential piece of our existence.

Our Whole Lives helps:

-participants develop and articulate their spiritual and sexual values and make responsible, healthy decisions based on those values.

-parents fulfill their role as the primary educators of their children on sexuality issues, creating a partnership between the family and the church through parent orientation and parent education programs.

-our congregation creates a safe community, free of abuse, in which we share a common vocabulary and a fact-based foundation about our responsible sexual health.

Our Whole Lives is responsible sexuality education.

It is based on approaches that work—approaches that increase knowledge, communication, safety and health.

UU Studio City will be offering the OWL program to youth in grades 7 through 9, starting Sunday Feb.5th, and will meet most Sundays through April 2nd. Our schedule includes two Saturday afternoon/evenings, designed to cover several sessions at once and provide community-building opportunities for the participants. The first Saturday meeting, which will include a pizza dinner, is scheduled for Feb.18th, and the other is on April 1st.

There is a mandatory parent/guardian orientation on Sunday, January 29th from 1:00-3:00 pm. You must attend this meeting for your child to be eligible to enroll in the OWL class. It is critical for parents and guardians to review the sensitive and explicit images and information that make up this curriculum.

Cost: $150.00 for UU members and $300.00 for non-pledging friends and outside community members.
Need-based scholarships are available.

Class Size limited to 16.
